Updates from the Sunnyside Police Chief Al Escalera:

In an effort to comply with recommendations made by health experts in regards to the COVID-19 virus, the Sunnyside Police Department will be limiting contact with the general public to help prevent the spread of illness in the following manner:

  • All non-priority calls for service, defined as crimes that are not in progress or would not afford immediate apprehension of a suspect, shall be handled via telephone contact.
  • All concealed pistol-licensing applications and processing, property returns and civilian ride-a-long options are suspended until further notice.
  • We have also suspended inmate visitation; however, our online visitation service through Visitel remains available for public use.

This, however, will not deter our commitment in preventing crime and keeping our community safe. Officers will continue to be out in force and our Dispatch Center and Corrections services remain committed to assisting residents in these in these trying times.

We encourage everyone to take proactive measures to stop the spread of illnesses by following recommendations made by health experts. Rest assured that the men and women of the Sunnyside Police Department remain vigilant in protecting you and our community.
