Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day
WHEREAS, on early Sunday morning, December 7, 1941, elements of the Imperial Japanese Navy attacked the U.S. Naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, The surprise attack left more than 3500 Americans either dead or wounded, and 1/3rd of the U.S. Naval fleet in ruins, and;
WHEREAS, on this seventy fifth anniversary of that attack we wish to join President Barack Obama and Washington Governor Jay Inslee in honoring those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our Nation, and;
WHEREAS, the Congress by Public Law 103-308, as amended, has designated December 7 of each year as “National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.”
NOW THEREFORE, I, James A. Restucci, Mayor of the City of Sunnyside, Washington, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the laws of the State of Washington and on behalf of the City Council do hereby proclaim Wednesday, December 7, 2016 as Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day in the City of Sunnyside.
I encourage all citizens of our community to observe this day with appropriate programs and ceremonies, and activities in honor of those veterans of World War II and their families for the priceless liberty which they helped to secure for our country and its future.
Furthermore, I direct the City Manager to lower the flag of the United States and Washington State at all city facilities pursuant to Sunnyside Municipal Code, chapter 1.14, the flag should remain at half-staff until close of business or sunset on the same day.
IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I HAVE HEREUNTO SET MY HAND AND CAUSED THE SEAL OF THE CITY OF SUNNYSIDE TO BE AFFIXED. DONE AT THE CITY OF SUNNYSIDE THIS 6TH DAY OF DECEMBER IN THE YEAR OF OUR LORD TWO THOUSAND AND SIXTEEN.
