Planning & Projects

The city has started to update its Parks, Recreation and Open Space (PROS) Plan, which was previously adopted in the early 2000's. The new citywide Plan will establish a road map for providing high quality, community-driven parks, recreation programs, and natural areas for the Sunnyside community.

As demand for recreation services and parks grows and changes, the City needs to plan for the future of its parks, programs and open spaces. Every six years, the City will develop an updated PROS Plan as the city’s blueprint for park improvements and recreation programming, and it will keep the city eligible for state and federal grants.

Citizen input is crucial to make sure recreational goals and priorities are consistent with community needs and interests. There will be several, COVID-sensitive opportunities for the community to participate, including community surveys, virtual public meetings and other community events. This process will give us an excellent opportunity to identify ways to better serve Sunnyside’s recreational needs over the coming 6 to 10 years.

The review and adoption of the updated, draft PROS Plan is anticipated for mid 2022.
