Mayor James A. Restucci

Mayor Restucci Photo_thumb_thumb.jpgMayor James A. "Jim" Restucci was elected to the Sunnyside City Council in 2003 and is currently serving his third term. Mayor Restucci has twice served as mayor pro tem: from 2006-2008 and 2009-2010, and has held the position of mayor four times, 2010-2012; 2013-2014; 2014 - 2016, and 2016 to present. He is currently the city's 30th mayor. His current term (Position 6) expires December 31, 2019.


Mayor Restucci represents the city, county and state on numerous boards and commissions (see list) and holds leadership positions on the following:
  • Chairman, Volunteer Firefighters and Reserve Police Officers’ Disability Board
  • Chairman, Yakima Valley Conference of Governments & Transportation Policy Board
  • Chairman, Yakima Valley Mayors Association
  • Vice Chairman, Yakima County Gang Commission
  • Vice Chairman, YAKCORPS (IPSS) Board of Director
AWCLogo_thumb.pngOn June 23, 2016 the AWC General Membership unanimously elected Mayor Restucci as AWC President. As president, Mayor Restucci will chair the AWC Executive Committee and Legislative Priorities Committee and will be part of the team that shapes the AWC Legislative Agenda, provides oversight to the AWC CEO and AWC Program Directors, and carries the message of all 281 cities to the Governor, Legislature and state agencies.

Since 2012, Mayor Restucci has served on the National Association of Regional Councils (NARC) Board of Directors (Region XV), narc-logo-web.JPGrepresenting the 10 Councils of Government (COGs) in Washington and the 12 COGs in Oregon.

Mayor Restucci has been awarded both the Certificate of Municipal Leadership (2006) and the Advanced Certificate of Municipal Leadership (2009) from the Association of Washington Cities. In 2012, Mayor Restucci was named the Spirit of Sunnyside Public Official of the Year by the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce.

Professional Life

Mayor Restucci served as a member of the U.S. Army (1984 to 1994) and Washington Army National Guard (AGR) from 1994 to 2004. He is a lifetime member of the Sunnyside Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3482 and was awarded the State of Washington Guardsman’s Medal for Heroism in January 1999 by Governor Gary Locke.

In his professional life, Mayor Restucci is executive vice president/COO and director of Network Operations for Axcess Corporation™ He is married to DeLeesa Restucci (Hochhalter) and they have two sons, Dylan (23) and Alex (22).
